Significant in the Ethiopian culture is eating from the same plate and sharing the same bread (called injera). It is said that people who eat from the same plate and break bread together will create a bond of friendship and personal loyalty between the diners that will last a life time.

Essential part of the meal is the injera (Ethiopian bread), a flat, tangy, crepe-like bread, made with self-rising wheat flour or teff and water. No dairy products, eggs, or shortening are used. By pinching a bite-sized piece of injera, you can use it to scoop up chunks of food, placing it into your mouth or that of your partner -- which is considered a gesture of affection (called gursha). Traditional American utensils are available on request.
